What will happen next

Work to map out the overall architecture of the curriculum, assessment and qualifications 3-18 continues. It includes:

  • offering opportunities for improving the embedding and impact of a range of cross-cutting work, including sustainable development, citizenship and enterprise
  • evaluating the learning which each young person would experience at each stage against the values, purposes and principles of Curriculum for Excellence
  • testing consistency of expectations across the curriculum and adjusting and carrying out further rounds of refinement as necessary
  • mapping out the overall architecture of the curriculum, assessment and qualifications 3-18.

Engagement with schools and other establishments continues; the following priorities have been incorporated into this work:

  • The issues that have arisen in developing the initial outline guidance will be tested and appropriate support for schools and teachers will be developed.
  • Feedback from this work will be used in developing the structure and detail of the curriculum, and guidance on curricular areas.
  • Skills-for-work courses will continue to be piloted.

Results of feedback and next steps

All the feedback from the online questionnaires, trialling and focus groups will be collated, synthesised and analysed. This will be published in a final report and the results so far will be available in the form of an interim report produced by Glasgow University.

These reports will be used to further refine the experiences and outcomes, to help plan for professional development of teachers and other education professionals, and to consider the nature and range of resources that might be needed to further support the adoption of Curriculum for Excellence in schools and educational establishments.
