Why did we change the site?

The site was set up in the early days of Curriculum for Excellence to provide essential information and guidance. Things have moved on and we want to provide a site that keeps up with changes.

How did we decide on the refreshed design?

We consulted the foremost experts in the field: practitioners!

We analysed the results of our online survey (January 2008) and then met with groups of teachers and asked them what they wanted to see. We ran workshops for practitioners and listened to their feedback, and we have made changes based on their opinions.

Teachers and other practitioners told us that the site was too ‘text heavy’, that it lacked visual elements, that we needed to make it easier to browse for information and that we needed to show what was most popular on the site.

What's different?

Working from the feedback we have had, we have tried to make the pages brighter and more visually appealing.

We have tried to increase the visual clues on the home page and expose more of the content, making it easier to find the important stuff as well as newly added content.

We have added video to the home page and will continue to add more.

We have begun the process of cutting down the number of words on pages and making sure that the language is more accessible and more appropriate for the web.

What are we planning to do now?

We're still testing the new design and planning further improvements. We will continue to develop and update the site based on the feedback we’ve had and we’ll gather more feedback on a regular basis.

We plan to keep the website dynamic and changing and to develop content that tells you what’s happening in schools around the country. We’ll also include a glossary.

We want to provide you with more examples of practice and give you the latest materials that you can adapt for your own specific needs.

We will review the structure of the site on a regular basis and make sure that information is easy to find.

We want to know what you think about all this…

Although we can’t meet with all of you, we'd still love to know what you think, so please send us your feedback. We'll consider all your comments as we continue to work to improve the site.

Thank you for your help!
