Curriculum for Excellence

Developing the curriculum

Staff at Longforgan Primary looked closely at the implications of implementing the values, purposes and principles of Curriculum for Excellence during an in-service day in March 2006. After auditing current practice and identifying areas of work that were already consistent with Curriculum for Excellence, staff felt quite liberated by the flexibility and creativity being given to the profession.

It was agreed that current programmes of study would remain in place until further guidance was available regarding learning outcomes and experiences but that staff would consider the content they currently taught and review this to see how meaningful links could be made across the curriculum, creating well planned interdisciplinary studies which would highlight the relevance of the learning to the children and lead to greater depth of learning. Another priority was to increase the fun involved.
