Abronhill High School created the Enriched Readers Programme through a partnership between the school Library Resource Centre (LRC) manager, the transition teacher and the English Department.

This interdisciplinary project drew on the skills of the professionals concerned to aid an S2 group with their reading and writing skills, whilst complementing work carried out in the classroom.

Aims

The Enriched Readers Programme embraced the values of Curriculum for Excellence, encouraging young people to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

More specifically, the project aimed to:

  • introduce pupils to a wide range of genres and writing styles
  • equip pupils with the tools to create a variety of writing projects
  • provide pupils with the tools to become confident in using various ICT techniques
  • use co-operative learning to allow pupils to work together on various projects.
