Curriculum for Excellence

Breadalbane Academy, fair trade fashion show

What was involved?

Staff, pupils and parent volunteers met regularly throughout the year to plan and organise the event. It was held in the school assembly hall, where the Fashion Show itself took place, with refreshments and stalls available at the end.

Who was involved?

Laurie Anne Carr, PT Art and Design, and Faith Aitken, Secretary of the Abereldy Traidcraft Group, have worked together over the past three years to produce this annual event. This school community celebration would not take place without the help of staff, pupils, parents and members of the local community.

Art and Design Department

All art and design staff are involved in developing the S2 course element of the project, attending planning meetings throughout the year and taking an active role in the organisation of the Show.

Home Economics Department

Home economics staff work with the Hospitality Access class, who participate in an enterprise exercise on the night. The pupils and parents are also involved in making tray bakes and serving refreshments.

Music Department

Music staff and pupils contribute to the musical entertainment on the night.

The Aberfeldy Traidcraft Group

Aberfeldy is Scotland’s first Fairtrade town and community members and parents are involved in the planning group. The Aberfeldy Traidcraft Group also organise a stall where they sell fair trade goods and the clothes that have been modelled during the Fashion Show. This is a very successful fundraising event for the group.

Pitlochry Festival Theatre

Kate Bonney, a lighting and sound technician from the Pitlochry Festival Theatre, led workshops during the day for pupils to enable them to operate the lighting and sound equipment on the night of the event.
